Bengal Library Association was established in 1925 under the presidentship of poet Rabindranath Tagore to promote library movement in undivided Bengal. Since then the Association has been engaged in development of library services in the state. It regularly organizes workshops, seminars, different programmes for the development of libraries as well as library staff and the association has been continuously engaged to involve common people in various aspects of library and library movement.
Among different programmes of the association, one of the important programmes is to modernize libraries in the state. For this purpose, on the request of Govt. of West Bengal, the association organized training programme for the librarians working in different Town Libraries in West Bengal, installed open source library management software Koha to 170 Town Libraries in 2011. Since then the Association regularly organizes training programme on Koha, customizes the software for different types of libraries, etc.
In the last two consecutive years, the association organized ‘Indkoha 2016: Two-Day International Conference on Koha’ in association with Bose Institute, Kolkata, Indian Statistical Institute, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation on 23-24 January, 2016 in Kolkata and ‘Indkoha 2017: Two-Day International Conference on Koha’ in association with Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata and Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation on 26-27 August, 2017 in Kolkata. Many resource persons, participants from all around the country as well as abroad participated in those Conferences.
Now this time the association is going to organize ‘Indkoha 2019’ on 23-24 February, 2019 in Kolkata jointly with Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal, India. Boost up your knowledge about the world class, award winning free and open source library and information center automation software Koha with library professionals, software developers and stake holders in south Asia.
